The Rifugio Pradidali, located at 2278 meters above sea level, is a renowned starting point for hikes and ascents in the Pale di San Martino Dolomite group. The project involves the redevelopment of the old winter bivouac, a shelter for mountaineers during the refuge’s closure periods, originally built nearby by volunteers from the CAI Treviso section.
The intervention preserves the original stone base of the old structure, elevating it with a double-pitched metal shell, carefully shaped to adapt to the overhanging rocks above the small building. The new bivouac, which can comfortably accommodate up to seven mountaineers, appears as a compact volume marked by a vertical cut at the entrance. This opening continues up to the roof with the glazing of the second level, offering a stunning view of Cima Canali.
The interiors, entirely clad in fir wood, are organized across three levels, maximizing the vertical space and enabling a functional division of the areas.
