The design of the terminal stations for the new Malga Ciapela - Capanna Bill cable car is set in a highly sensitive environmental and landscape context, addressing the balance between the need for modern infrastructure and the preservation of a fragile area like Val d’Arei, at the foot of the Marmolada.
The project offers an opportunity to reflect on the interaction between architecture and nature, aiming to harmonize the imposing volumes of the stations with the surrounding landscape.
The two stations, entirely developed above ground, are characterized by large, well-defined volumes designed to meet strict functional and technical requirements while maintaining aesthetic appeal and visual harmony with the mountain environment.
The boarding and disembarking areas, featuring trapezoidal-section volumes, are entirely clad in dark-colored metal, blending seamlessly with the shadows and deep tones of the alpine landscape. Adjacent to these are the technical volumes, clad in bush-hammered exposed concrete, providing a rich and tactile visual texture.
Finally, the use of wood and glass establishes a direct dialogue with the natural surroundings. Natural larch wood evokes local building traditions, while glass enhances the visual continuity between interior and exterior, emphasizing transparency and lightness.
